The servo on my 87 390 SE is the same as my TVR 3000S which is TR6

Servo is off a 1.6 Capri or Cortina although I've yet to find out which one! The servo itself is the same but the arms at the back (to the brake pedal) are different lengths. I'm on a project to change mine for a bigger one to go with the bigger calipers and master cylinder but pilo-wedgebits has already reserved my old one.

The servo on my 390SE is definitely not 1.6 Capri or Cortina as the vacuum pipe fixing is in a different position and it's also thinner than the 390SE one. I've had the one off my 3000S and the one off my 390 next to each other and they are identical (so is the master cylinder which is Cortina). Maybe mine is different to others but it is definitely TR6.

The Wedge servo was fitted to 1980s Fords but in low numbers, the servo is of 8" diameter, majority of Cortinas/Capri's etc have a 9" servo fitted hence the rarity, maybe Ford used up some old stock but unfortuately they are hard to find and when you do they are expensive. As servo's tended to be used on various marques its a good possibilty that it had also been fitted to TR6's etc which is good news as the subject and source of new servos has elluded wedge owners for years. Some wedgers have converted to more modern vehicle, I used a Peugeot one on mine as a tempoary measure, thought I had found a suitable Ford one but alas turned out to be a 9" servo.

100% NOT TR6, early M series used TR6, BUTfrom '77 (I have never seen a 3000s with one) and later used Ford items,(denoted by the fact that on the M's the TR6 servo has a chipboard 10MM packer OR on very early versions this was alloy). Adrian@

Servo unit I have typically seen on wedges is a Girling unit, 8 inch diameter with vacuum pipe at '12 o clock' and is definately the same as used on 1.6 Capri/Cortina (see my previous post for difference). 2.0 Capri/Cortina is also a Girling unit and has same fittings to bulkhead and master cylinder but has vacuum pipe at '2 o clock' and is 9 inch in diameter. I have picked up a 2.0 unit from a Capri and am currently deliberating on the best way to fit it - the standard one just about touches the inner wing so I will potentially need to cut a hole and re-fibreglass to get clearance for the bigger one.

I dare say some wedges had other units fitted. BlaineUK's 400SE has the same 1.6 unit fitted to my 350 but looking at pilo-wedgebits 400SE at the weekend it has a different (smaller) one altogether. Typical TVR.....

The difference between ANY Ford/BL usage in these servo's is that the OE item from TVR has an adjustable clevis fitting on the input side of the servo. Adrian@

I bow to your superior knowledge Adrian. The reason I was convinced the one on my 3000S was TR6 is that there was an invoice for a TR6 servo in amongst the paper work so I assumed it was for the 3000S. Obviously not, as I checked last night and there's no 10mm packer. Shows you shouldn't believe all that you read wink
